Join us for a discussion on “Hidden Histories of African American Women in Philadelphia from the 1700s to the present.”
We will have a public reception and roundtable highlighting and celebrating the work of teachers and students as we consider what it means to continue “Building a More Perfect Union.” Participants are encouraged to explore Rising Sun: Artists in an Uncertain America to contextualize their understanding of the themes to be discussed.
The Hidden Histories Panel Series
Esteemed panelists and scholars will discuss pressing issues as they pertain to the theme of a grant funded by the National Endowment of Humanities. The grant, “‘They Carried Us’: Hidden Histories of African American Women in Philadelphia, Building a More Perfect Union from the 1700s to the present” references the book, They Carried Us: The social impact of Philadelphia’s Black Women Leaders. (Baker Rogers & Traylor 2020) which highlights the role of African American women and their amazing contributions to Philadelphia.
