Alison Saar

Alison Saar (b. 1956) is a sculptor, mixed-media, and installation artist who lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Saar creates artwork transforming found objects that reflect themes of social identity, history, and spirituality. Saar received a dual degree in art history and studio art from Scripps College in Claremont, CA, in 1978, and an MFA from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, CA, in 1981. Her solo exhibitions include Alison Saar: Of Aether and Earthe, Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College (2020 – 2021) and the Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena, CA (2021), and Alison Saar in Print, National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C. (2016). Recent group exhibitions include: Drawing Down the Moon at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2022); Afro-Atlantic Histories at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX (2022); and Feminine Power: The Divine to the Demonic at The British Museum, London (2022). Her works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, NY, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C, Whitney Museum of American Art, NY, among others. Saar is represented by L.A. Louver Gallery in Venice, California.
