Wilmer Wilson IV

Wilmer Wilson IV (b. 1989) is an American artist based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who works in performance, photography, sculpture, and other media. His work is critically recognized for its performative investigations into the marginalization of and the care for Black bodies in everyday social relations. Wilson received a BFA in Photography from Howard University in 2012 and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in 2015. He is the recipient of The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage Fellowship and The American Academy in Rome Fellowship. His solo shows include To Lessen the Demand of Visibility, Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery, University of the Arts, Philadelphia PA (2022), and Fire Bill’s Spook Kit, Flanders Fields Museum, Belgium (2017). Key group exhibitions include: No Humans Involved, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2021); New Grit: Art & Philly Now, Philadelphia Museum of Art, PA (2021); Performing Portraiture, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA (2014); and more. Wilson’s work is in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA, and the New Orleans Museum of Art, LA.
