The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) and the African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) are proud to partner with The Mann Center for the Performing Arts to bring you the special performance “YOUBA” in honor of welcoming the “Rising Sun” chair from PAFA to AAMP. At the core of the music is the “Kora”, aka the ancestor to the guitar and string music, which originates in Senegal. Youba Cisko, who is born in Senegal brings his over 72 generations of family Kora playing and singing to the band. The band also includes traditional Giniene West African percussion (Saantis Davis), drums (Najashi Rasheed), base (Ali Richardson), and guitar (MJ).
