Rising Sun: Artists in an Uncertain America has been extended by popular demand! Learn More
Rising Sun artists Martha Jackson Jarvis, Dyani White Hawk, and Wilmer Wilson IV, join Monument Lab Director Paul M. Farber in a conversation that introduces strategies of site-specificity in art created in dialogue with the city, its monuments and architecture. Artwork created for a specific site register and make visible new meanings and untold histories of a place. This program offers an opportunity to learn about the rigorous work and imaginings of contemporary artists at the forefront of this practice. Presentations by each artist will be followed by a discussion and Q&A.

In Dialogue With The City is part of the Rising Sun Artists & Curators Series presented by the African American Museum in Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. The series was created, in part, to extract the deeper and more nuanced themes found across the commissioned works and artists ethos and inspiration. It gives the audience an opportunity to learn from and interact with the creative minds behind the arresting and visceral work and is meant to act as a greater catalyst for larger conversation around democracy, freedom of expression, place, personhood, community, and citizenship.
